We live in a time of change, which challenges and redefines the way we live and work. We hear about a future with address-less offices, about work nomads and the hybrid work life. For most of us, this is already a reality. Many of us work from home several days a week – and the integrated home office is here to stay. Some work on laptops at home at the dining table or on the couch, just as we work in cafes, office hotels, on trains.
However, it's incredibly important to have a place where we can retreat and find peace for deep work, so create a proper home office in your dwelling, either in a separate room or in a corner of the living room or kitchen-dining area
with a practical desk, a functional chair, and not least, proper office lighting.
Because there's an extra need for good lighting when you work – whether it's a long 8-hour workday or just a couple of hours. The lighting in the office plays a significant role in your work environment and can greatly influence your well-being, productivity, and health.
SPIRIT is modern, cool and practical. The lamp is attached to the pole with a magnet and can be moved freely, allowing you to adjust your task light as needed. The SPIRIT collection has a distinctive three-dimensional design expression with the simple balance of the tubular structures and is also available as a floor lamp and pendant.
The award-winning ORBIT pendant light can be controlled via a smartphone or the touch-free sensor, adjusting the brightness and colour temperature. This makes it perfect for small homes where the workspace needs to be integrated into e.g. the kitchen. Set ORBIT to achieve any desired atmosphere.
The award-winning ORBIT floor lamp is flexible and stylish, perfect for reading or working. It provides glare-free light that can be adjusted in intensity. The height can be adjusted and both spots can be angled individually, allowing you to shape the lighting effect. ORBIT is also available as a wall light and pendant.
Having a good desk lamp is essential when you're working in the office. It's important for the lamp's light to come from the side and at the same time be below eye level. This way, screen reflections and glare are avoided. Opting for a desk lamp with a movable arm is a really good idea, as it makes it easier to adjust the lamp's position.
Take, for example, an architect lamp – it's a classic design statement and simultaneously practical. The bendable, flexible arm makes it the ultimate desk, reading, and work lamp. You can adjust it precisely to meet your needs – meaning, you can direct the light exactly where you need it. With the on/off switch on the lamp head, it's simple and user-friendly. It's no-nonsense design. LIGHT-POINT's Archi is a really good solution. It epitomizes a classic. A study in style. And one of the most iconic and recognizable office lamps in the world. A popular choice for anyone who wants both form and function – aesthetics and good lighting. Archi is now available in an updated, modern version in beautiful, Nordic colors. The lamp still has an industrial look but is softer, more decorative. You can use it on the table with a clamp or on a stand, on the wall, alone or several in a row. Archi is the perfect office lamp. Reliable and robust, yet at the same time lightweight, sculptural, and sophisticated.
If you also do a lot of handwriting, it's a good idea to place the lamp on the opposite side relative to whether you write with your left or right hand.
The BLADE T2 SLIM table lamp from LIGHT-POINT design by Studio F. A. Porsche has clean, symmetrical lines and concealed hinges and cables. The lamp has optical glass that provides a wide, glare-free light and is therefore a great choice for desk lighting.
The INLAY pendant light is simple and sophisticated but full of attitude, and the contrasts and interplay between the exclusive materials attract the eye. This pendant from LIGHT-POINT design by Studio F. A. Porsche is perfect for the modern and "strong-willed" office.
INLAY table lamp from LIGHT-POINT design by Studio F. A. Porsche is a small architectural masterpiece, perfect for your desk. The lamp casts an even light along its entire length. The lamp is controlled with a non-contact sensor, which is also used to control the intensity of the light.
The ideal scenario is to combine natural and artificial light. Initially, make sure to sit by windows or have skylights that allow daylight to enter the room. When it comes to choosing lamps, remember that the right lighting depends on the type of work you do.
You've likely experienced how crucial lighting is, both when working from a home office and in a workplace. Incorrect lighting can cause eye fatigue and headaches, while the right office lighting can enhance your efficiency and energy – also affecting your overall perception of the space and surroundings. Therefore, it's definitely worth the investment to create the optimal and most inspiring lighting for your office. Neither too little nor too much light is advisable. At LIGHT-POINT, we can assist you in achieving the perfect work lighting. Find inspiration for your choice among our sleek and minimalist lamps for the office – both for your home office and if you have a larger workplace.
Examples of good office lamps include: DARK, BLADE, INLAY, SPIRIT, and ARCHI.
Some choose to set up their home office in the kitchen or living room, so they can still be close to the family without being completely cut off from contact and dialogue. It might also be a matter of space, as not everyone has an extra room available. If you integrate an office space into a communal area, it naturally requires a bit more self-discipline than if you had a separate room dedicated solely to work.
Remember, it should be your zone, your private reading room, your little sanctuary where you can focus and concentrate. Fortunately, today there's a wide selection of designs – comfortable and stylish furniture – suitable for both relaxation and work, so you don't have to compromise on aesthetics.
Of course, it's important that you can sit properly and ergonomically for many hours, but it's just as essential to have the right light. Make sure to find a desk lamp for the office that can provide you with both precise and comfortable work lighting.
In general, try to create a cosy home workspace that blends into the rest of the interior. LIGHT-POINT's lamps, with their sleek design, match most Danish design classics and the Scandinavian interior style in general. You might choose a desk lamp like the Atollo from Oluce, which less resembles a traditional desk lamp – it's both functional and elegant. We sell Oluce products in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. If you are interested in purchasing them elsewhere, please refer to the list of retailers.
When setting up a workspace in the living room, there are several things you can do to define and mark the "work zone." Consider placing your desk away from the wall as a room divider to signal a "room within a room." Or paint the walls around the desk in a different colour than the rest of the room. In the kitchen, you might find a corner where you can place a smaller table and choose a desk lamp from the same collection as the pendant over the dining table. It's optimal if the lamps are linked to each other, so the visual expression becomes harmonious and cohesive. This can be achieved, for example, with the BLADE collection from LIGHT-POINT Design by Studio F. A. Porsche.
In both solo, small, and larger offices, we often sit in front of a computer, which places extra demands on the lighting. The area around the computer should be clearly illuminated, but it's important that the light does not reflect on the screen or cause glare. Try to create an even transition in the light at the computer. Also, establish a good base lighting with a ceiling lamp for the office, but it's crucial that the light comes in from the side and just in front or just above the computer. Here are our lighting expert Majken Øberg's best tips on how to achieve the right office lighting, which can create a comfortable working environment, improve productivity, and contribute to increased well-being.
1. The colour temperature is measured in Kelvin (K) and refers to the light's warm or cool expression. For offices, a colour temperature of 3000-4000K is recommended, as it corresponds to natural daylight.
2. It's important to have sufficient lighting to avoid fatigue and eye strain. Ensure that the brightness meets the applicable standards.
3. Distribute the light in larger offices with various forms of light: ceiling lamps, wall lamps, and desk lamps. Uniform lighting in the room is important to avoid shadows. Use diffuse light to minimize harsh contrasts.
4. Remember ergonomics! Adjustable lamps and light sources allow you to tailor the light to your individual needs and tasks.
5. Avoid eye strain and decreased concentration due to surface reflections and direct light that causes glare.
6. LED lighting is energy-efficient and has a longer lifespan compared to traditional light sources like incandescent bulbs and fluorescent tubes. It is also more adjustable in terms of color temperature.
Are you a business customer? Remember the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation
Be mindful of the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation. There are rules and standards for the work environment and lighting, so you should ensure that the office meets all the necessary requirements.
According to the occupational safety and health administration guidelines, the brightness throughout the office should be at least 300 lux measured 85 cm above the floor. Therefore, the base lighting needs to be adequate. If the ceiling is high, pendants with indirect lighting can provide comfortable and effective base lighting. If there is a standard ceiling height, ceiling-mounted lamps and pendants with diffuse or other non-glaring light are best.
