Our outdoor space has become a living room, a lounge, an extra living area that we equip with architect-designed furniture, just like indoors. Exterior design has become just as popular as interior design. This also applies to garden and outdoor lighting. Now it's no longer enough to have some light that we can use to navigate – we invest in design statements that create atmosphere and space, while also being aesthetic. But outdoor lighting serves many purposes and is much more than just mood or ambient lighting.
Outdoor lamps have a range of specific functions and must meet some very (basic) practical needs, namely, to provide safety and security. It's about being able to find our way from the carport or driveway, not stumbling and falling in the dark, and feeling secure when we return home late at night, easily finding our keys when we stand at the front door. Light also has a preventive effect, as it helps keep unwanted guests away from the property.
RØRHAT is a simple outdoor lamp made in Denmark with a focus on quality materials. The lamp has a classic, timeless design and is available in a variety of colours and materials, so you can choose the one that suits your outdoor space.
MIRAGE is an outdoor wall light that combines clean lines and technical precision in its design. Place MIRAGE on your house wall, all the way up to the front door, to create a cosy, safe and inviting welcome to your home.
CUBE is an elegant and classic wall and standing lamp, and one of LIGHT-POINT's most popular offerings. Each of the many models in this series has its own light cone, providing effective and decorative illumination.
There are outdoor lamps for every taste, for every place, and every purpose. It is therefore important that you take care to investigate what type of light you really need. Functionality is thus more important than form in the first instance. Outdoor lighting should be chosen carefully to avoid light pollution, as the wrong lighting is both annoying and a waste of energy. So only choose the light and lamps that are necessary. Firstly, you should be able to orient yourself, and secondly, the lighting should create an environment and the right atmosphere. These are functions that require their own types of lamps and lighting plans.
But what should you choose? The golden rule is to choose outdoor lamps that complement the architecture. At LIGHT-POINT, you can find outdoor lighting inspiration with our selection of stylish, streamlined lamps that match most houses. And remember, it's a nice detail if you illuminate the architecturally beautiful characteristics of your house. Find inspiration for garden lighting, the terrace, and the driveway in LIGHT-POINT's extensive range of modern solutions for garden and outdoor lighting. See collections like MIRAGE, CUBE, ORBIT, SOHO, COMPACT, ZERO, SERIOUS, SOLO, DELI, RØRHAT og LANTERN.
The award-winning ORBIT's optics cast broad, soft light. Place it on an outer wall of your house, then illuminate your driveway with the standing model, also suited to illuminating planters and gardens.
SOHO is a wall lamp featuring recessed round tiles that can be placed creatively in any desired pattern on the wall. This collection is perfect for creating a striking visual impact on your outdoor space.
COMPACT is a stylish and functional wall light that combines discretion with energy-saving LED technology. COMPACT is the ideal solution for illuminating outdoor passageways or tiled areas with elegance and efficiency.
Remember that the driveway is the entrance to your home. It's what welcomes you and your guests home. So, it requires both welcoming and elegant lighting. After a long day at work, it's nice to walk or drive up a well-lit path, so remember lamps for your driveway, preferably bollards, recessed spotlights, and/or wall lamps. Along entrance areas and pathways, it'sa good idea to choose low-key lighting that acts as a guide and helps with orientation. At the front door, you should choose powerful and focused wall lighting that makes it easy to find your way, locate your keys, and also creates safety and security.
Danes are a design-conscious people, and our outdoor spaces have gained a whole new status. Today, we don't just say terrace or garden, but outdoor space. Inside and outside have merged, so there's no longer a boundary – if there is one, it's fluid. Despite the unpredictable Danish weather, more and more of us are keen to spend our (free) time outdoors, enjoying the open sky and bringing our lives outside. And the right outdoor lighting helps create the feeling of an inviting space, both as a mood setter and a style marker. With garden lighting, we can work scenographically and create zones and areas. Whether you have a small balcony, a regular terrace, or a large luxury lounge in the garden, it's important to decorate with good lighting design. It can make all the difference to your outdoor space.
In addition to the more traditional, fixed outdoor lamps, there is now a wide range of mobile, nomadic models, as well as hybrid designs that can be used both indoors and outdoors, and moved around as needed, which is super practical and economical. But there are also products available in both indoor and outdoor models, allowing for a visual link between inside and outside. LIGHT-POINT designs and manufactures lamps that can be used indoors and outdoors – for example, BRICK, CUBE, and ZERO – as well as lamps specifically for exterior use, which don't lead a double life.
The time is soon for carefree and lazy days under the open sky – it's the season for cosy moments outdoors, for long evenings that suddenly turn into nights. Quiet hours where we simply sit and light candles in the emerging midnight darkness with a blanket wrapped around us. There's something very special – and magical – about ending the day in the glow of soft, warm light. The terrace is, of course, mostly for relaxation and socializing, for friends and the whole family, for entertainment and tranquillity. It's a space that should be functional and flexible, inviting and embracing. With plant pots, cushions, blankets, rugs, and patio heaters. With outdoor kitchens and showers. With different sections for different functions. There may be a dining area, a barbecue area, a seating arrangement, and a quiet reading corner. The essence is that today we create environments outside and decorate with matching designs. This means that we don't just have random odd things scattered around. We make floor plans, consult professionals, and take into account sheltered and sunny spots – and above all, our lifestyle. LIGHT-POINT's experts can help you find the perfect solutions for terrace lighting in our extensive collection of minimalist, timeless outdoor lamps.
When the terrace becomes a well-designed environment, it becomes a sanctuary where we can vacation. Every day! Previously, we sat on the terrace in the summer, preferably when it was 20+ degrees. Today, we simply spend more time outside, and use the outdoor space earlier in the spring and continue well into the fall. We put on a sweater and bring the thermos out to the terrace, light up the fire pit or outdoor fireplace, and enjoy the sound of crackling fire. The season has simply become longer in Denmark, more elastic. It requires more light.
Use your living room lighting as inspiration when decorating your terrace! On and around the terrace, you can create ambience with terrace lighting using small and large light sources placed in various locations, just like inside the living room. The possibilities are many, but it's a good start to use lanterns in different sizes. Choose portable lanterns so they're easy to place around as needed – this also adds dynamism. Our Lantern collection is ideal for this. Illuminate with wall spotlights as well, but not too many, so you don't end up sitting in a sea of light. Many forget that there's also light coming from indoors, as there are often lamps on inside the house.
SERIOUS offers the perfect cosy lighting for your outdoor spaces. With its design that incorporates soft and rounded lines, it allows you to adjust the direction of the light, either from above or below, as wish.
LANTERN is an elegant take on outdoor lighting. The design is almost minimalist and the lamp exudes a clean and aesthetic look whether it is switched on or off. Place it around your garden to add a stylish look to your outdoor spaces.
DELI is a Danish designed recessed light. By placing several DELI lights along a staircase or as an integral part of the terrace design, you can create a cosy atmosphere in outdoor areas with ambient light to set the mood.
Feel free to combine different types of outdoor lighting and place lamps around the garden, for example. The lighting should be chosen based on where you want light when you're outside, but also on how you want to perceive the outdoor space from inside the house. If you want to illuminate the garden in a general light, you can choose a broad diffused light. And if you want a more sculptural, dramatic effect, a play of light, either against a tree or a facade, spots or uplights are a good solution. Lamps mounted in the grass, in flower beds, or on gravel/stone can be beautiful accent lights for dividing and marking the garden. It's important to create depth and levels in the garden, for example, by illuminating a large tree at the bottom of the garden with a spotlight, using up-lights for general landscape lighting, and possibly illuminating low-growing plants with bollard lights. Many make the mistake of over-lighting. Remember that the light should primarily create a mood. However, it also provides security when you're inside the house and can see what's happening outside.
TIP!
There can be significant savings by choosing outdoor lamps with a sensor, as a sensor ensures that the lamp is only on when needed. There are motion sensors, which have a preventive effect against unwanted guests. There are light sensors, which only turn on when darkness falls, and time sensors, which – as the name suggests – can be set to turn on and off at specific times of the day.
