Which outdoor lamps should I choose?
There are outdoor lamps for every taste, every place, and every purpose. The first thing to consider is what type of lighting you actually need. Your need for light is firstly more important than aesthetics. Consider whether you need light in the driveway, by the front door, in the garden, or all three, and whether you want wall lamps, spotlights, or bollard lamps. Choose the light and lamps necessary for you to orient yourself and feel secure, and to create the lighting environment and atmosphere you desire. These functions require different lamp types and lighting plans. It would be best if you ALWAYS chose lamps thoughtfully.
Outdoor lighting is many things, and much more than just mood and cosy lighting. Outdoor lamps have a range of specific functions and must meet some very practical needs, namely creating safety and security. It's about being able to find your way from the carport or driveway, not tripping and falling in the dark, and feeling safe when you come home late at night and easily finding your keys at the front door. Light also has a preventive effect, helping to keep unwelcome guests away from your property.
Once you’ve analyzed your need for light, there are a number of other considerations: What size lamp? What expression? Black, white, or rust? How many watts (brightness)? If you choose bollard lamps, how tall should they be? And how high and how close should your outdoor wall lamps be mounted?
Are there any rules I need to follow? No. You can choose outdoor lamps entirely according to your needs and taste. We can guide you and recommend that you always have an electrician install your lamps, but there are no legal requirements. How many lamps you need and how close they should be is up to you. If in doubt, you can always contact our lighting experts and advisors.
A good tip: If your outdoor area has tiles that can get slippery in wet weather, it requires more light/lamps. If you have gravel or other non-slip surfaces, less light is required.

Remember that the driveway is your home's entrance. It welcomes you and your guests. Light up your guests with welcoming and elegant lamps for the driveway. Illuminate your garden with architectural garden lamps
It's not just on and around the house where you should place outdoor lamps. Consider the garden in your lighting plan and place several lamps around the garden and in flower beds. Lighting should be chosen based on where you want light when you are outside, but also how you want to perceive the outdoor space from inside the house. If you want to illuminate the garden with general light, you can choose broad, diffused lighting. If you want a more sculptural, dramatic effect, playing light either up a tree or a facade, spotlights or uplights are a workable solution. Lamps mounted in the grass, flower beds, or on gravel/stones can serve as beautiful marker lights to divide and highlight the garden. It’s important to create depth and levels in the garden, for instance by illuminating a large tree at the back of the garden with a spotlight, using up-lights for general landscape lighting, and perhaps illuminating low-growing plants with floor lamps. Many make the mistake of over-lighting. Remember, light should primarily create atmosphere. However, it also provides security when you are inside the house and can see what is happening outside.
